The Mighty Millions Lottery benefitting the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, includes a $2.3 million Grand Prize Showhome

A peek inside the Mighty Millions Lottery show home

When Penny Birkholz designed the interior of this year’s Mighty Millions Lottery dream home, three key words were the focus of her vision — warm, classic and contemporary.

Her other inspiration came from the home’s prime location in Keswick on the River.

“The lot is what initially inspired our plan and the layout of the house,” she said.

The $2.3 million home at 3472 Keswick Blvd. is on an extended lot that borders the river valley. Windows and open concept spaces throughout the house allow residents to benefit from the natural beauty that surrounds it.

The home is just one of 2,405 prizes in this year’s Mighty Millions Lottery in support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. Other prizes include luxury vehicles, exotic vacations and season tickets for the Edmonton Oilers.

The grand prize, however, is the 6,000-square-foot, five-bedroom home. Among its amenities are an outdoor sport court, a built-in hot tub and a 700-square-foot gym in the basement.

The home even comes with all the furniture that is on display, which Birkholz said is valued at approximately $100,000. Two of her favourite pieces are the custom dining table designed in Edmonton and the Italian-made sectional on the main floor.

The Mighty Millions Lottery home features around $100,000 in furnishings including custom items such as the Edmonton-made dining table and Italian-made sectional sofa.

The winner of the dream home also receives a cash prize of $100,000.

Mike House, president and chief executive officer of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, said his favourite elements are the kitchen and the virtual reality equipment in the basement.

He said the lottery proceeds focus on two areas at the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

“One is around patient outcomes and the other one is around family-centred care.”

He said that every three months the foundation works with the hospital to fund the most urgent needs related to those two areas, which the government doesn’t normally fund.

“One of the great things about raising money like that is we can be as flexible and adaptable to the (hospital’s) needs as they arise.”

The public can tour the dream home Monday to Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. and weekends and holidays from noon to 5 p.m. The draw for the home’s winner will be Dec. 7.
